My Waypost experience is seriously different than the "m'lady" review. I live in the Boise-Elliot neighborhood. I've been going to the Waypost for over a year. There are at least three or four people who work there. They all have always been helpful and down-to-earth with me, as well as other clientele I see served when I'm there.
Also, I've even seen the owner handle a couple situations involving drunk guys needing to be asked to leave during a show; and I have to say, I've never seen 86ing happen anywhere else with that sort of finesse.
Most of all, The Waypost spotlights music you don't see much elsewhere, and in a way you just don't see much elsewhere either.
In their new back area, I've already been wowed over intimate shows by oldschool portland "rockstars", as well as intrigued by cool out-of-nowhere upstarts. And, I can imagine The Waypost wearing this groove further, now that the Towne Lounge is closing. They also sometimes have curious and educational non-musical presentations.
The Waypost is cool. I like the simple grill-pressed croissant with ham and cheese, and a cold beer, while I puruse their funky books and other odds and ends.
I really wanted to like this cute new little place. It's right down the street from my house/work and it has a nice homey atmosphere unlike all of the froo-fee yuppy crap going up all over NE. That said, I find the owner to be sort of like a deaf-mute that gives you the "deer in headlights" look when you try to order or talk to him and the other employee is just plain rude and acts as though she's doing you a grand favor to get some ice or make your sandwich. 2 of 3 times I ordered a sandwich, they forgot something which wouldn't have been a big deal if they hadn't made me write the order myself for them to read. On a happy note, little edie's vintage shop next door is my new favorite shop! bye..............
