BarFly's Review of Salvador Molly's
Crowded, loud, and fun, with surf a peanut shell- strewn floor, this Caribbean restaurant manages to make you forget that you're on the cusp of the ’burbs in a strip mall. Lethal and huge tropical-themed drinks dominate, though the bartenders are equally adept at the classics when asked. Closes earlier than it should.

Let me preface by saying I never, ever complain about anything. I just don't go back... but this is different because I used to come to Molly's 10-12 times a year. Why? Because it WAS my favorite place in Portland to go have fun pirate food, some killer cocktails along with a laid back attitude. This isn't the same place that it used to be. The Bartenders instead of being funny are rude. The wait staff appear lost. The new decor in the bar is confused and the menu even more confusing. I was so embarrassed the last time I went with friends because I raved about the place so much. The hostess walked 10 feet in front of us, dropped off the menus at our table and walked away without saying a word. It took 15 minutes for a waitress to come over to us. The drinks took 20 minutes to make and the Margarittas were the worst I/we ever had....ever! The salsa was dry and scant, so we asked for more and received 3 bottles of hot sauce. We asked for a little more "greens" to put in our tacos and the waitress showed up with a huge popcorn bowl of lettuce that wouldn't even fit on the table. Talk about a slap in the face from the Kitchen. I could keep going but instead I will never go ever again... Someone just call me when they change it back to the way it was.
New owners, why you gotta screw things up?? It's true, the kick-ass happy hour here is mostly gone... The floor is non peanut-friendly, (although that isn't their fault) but the bartenders are still REALLY nice and the menu is very different but still tasty. Ahhh Molly's, I will always miss you...
We used to LOVE Salvador Molly's, it was our place for all things Tropical in the winter. However, recently it has changed hands. New owner is changing decor (no more velvet Elvis), menu, happy hour selections (no more rum drinks across the board), and atmosphere. They installed new floors and they aren't peanut shell friendly, so NO MORE PEANUT SHELLS on the floor. We went back twice to give it a shot, the second time (in March) there were 10-20 flies swarming in one part of the dining room the whole dinner and one moth that flew by our table in the middle of our appetizers. We ended up getting our check and getting dinner elsewhere, we won't be back and are very sad to have lost this local favorite.
they used to be the very best, i used to be a fixture there... they changed the menu (3.25) changed the hours, and changed the days on happy hour... sadly dissapointed :(
I go here as often as I can, the happy hour deals are the best in PTown.... friendly staff and good food, I have never been anything but tipsy when I left!
Killer Caribbean food and exotic drinks. Peanut shells all over the floor with baskets of peanuts as an appetizer is fun. Bustling with people but the service is still quite good. I have been going here for years and will continue to. Their shredded BBQ pork and mashed potatoes is so damn good! And their fish tacos are tasty too. And their pina coladas. And their margaritas. I have nothing negative to say about this place! Keep on rockin'!
the east side molly's does it for me, this one...doesn't. food is better on the east side. less busy on the west. drinks the same at both, whichever you prefer.
