BarFly's Review of The Lamp
The niche clientele (late-nighters fond of energetic and purposeless chats, shall we say) so devoted to former-establishment Paola's have moved on, of course, and The Lamp bears about as much resemblance to its former incarnation as The Aladdin does to its dirty movie past.
The space was purchased amd re-named by The Aladdin after the adult-contemporary-themed venue realized, about a decade late, that fans of John Mayer seeking a post-show cocktail would rather drive back to Beaverton then chance the neighboring lounge.
Not much reason to go there otherwise, of course. The food's passable but overpriced, smoking's been banished to the video poker nook and, about once a week, regulars newly re-entering society stagger inside and look around helplessly, sad and dazed and just a little disgusted.

Just discovered The Lamp. Not only a great place to go before a show at the Aladin, but in the afternoon it's a great place to eat. Had a great veggie sandwich which isn't that easy to find in many bars. The manager was an ex touring drummer with much street cred. We'd been there when it was Paola's too and enjoyed it then, but it's a bit cleaner now....
Nothing like it used to be . .. Where can a man go to see the local junkie? I like the old style. Much more entertaining. If you're in to the sanitized Beaverton bars, then this might be right up your alley.
I just moved to the neighborhood-- and am loving the local fare. I went in for their advertised Irish Stew on St. Patrick's Day. It was awesome! I also tried the ham sandwich-- and I kid you not-- it was the best ham sandwich I have ever had. The bartender was friendly. It was super small-- and a little loud for a jazz act-- but I'd certainly go back.
Paola's is now run by the Aladdin Theater folks, who changed it's name to "The Lamp." It's about the same as before, but the staff is now friendly to prefunc'ing concert-goers. The old crew couldn't hide their contempt.
The ood is pretty decent, and drinks seem fine, so it's an OK place to meet up before a concert next door. Otherwise, it's just a local restaurant/lounge.
They closed down and are now 'The Lamp' Haven't been in yet so no idea what it's like - just thought I'd send the update
