BarFly's Review of Nicolai St Clubhouse
Nothing to write home about, but a friendly enough joint with a rec room mise-en-scene. The regular crowd is mostly stevedore/RR workers, who tend to completely ignore the dancers, which is probably just as well. Personable service behind the bar.
Small stage, pool x1.
Daily drink specials around $2.75.

This club is under new ownership, changes since he's taken over: doubled the previous owners house fee for the strippers, ask that the strippers pay $1 per minute they're physically in the dance room + there $10 stage fee, removed all media outputs about the club and the girls scheduals, made the stage smaller and stuck it in the far corner and threw up a removable pole, then made the area for dancers to sit in front of a customer 7" wide.....my butt wouldn't fit on that and I weigh less than your average stripper. This guy doesn't care about his staff or dancers, and he sure as heck doesn't care about safety either in the new construction there all the time. I give it 6 Monthes before they go out of business.
On first approach I was thinking don't go in. Looking at the interior I was still motivated to split. However in spite of the lack of a pole, the there were two dancers that I couldn't take my eyes off of and two others that are engaging conversationalists. With only one area for a private dance acquiring one is problematic when there is a crowd. One upside is you the vibe is very "kick back"; the dancers aren't appearing at the conclusion of every dance to draw you into a private dance. Definitely a place where you can watch a sporting event and then take it from there, depending on your affinity for who is dancing.
Drove past a month ago. Looks like the place has been converted to a sport bar. Didn't go in.
Was able to visit this one while out driving around and I'm afraid I won't be back. The girls worked hard and we tipped and bought drinks, but the setup is not very friendly since all seats either are at the counter or facing away from the stage. They used to advertise topless waitresses in the magazine, but we were just fine with that not being the case (nothing personal, you were a great waitress, just a bit old to be letting the twins out unannounced). Go to Casa Diablo to see this gimmick in use to good effect.
To give her credit one stripper really made an effort and lit a match and rested it on her nipple while it burned down. It wasn't really sexy or mysterious or cool, but it certainly showed effort.
Take it from a retired stripperwho's worked in this stinky little dive... Food's usually quite good. Pool table area's the place to be... Stage is way too small, jukebox concept is ridiculous, but actually has the occasional decent song. Strppers "dressing room" is in the uber-small ladies room where the general public, including spiteful, fat uglies can raid your stuff... Not the cultural hotspot of the universe... Blonde female bartender's a bitch, unless she knows you... Glad I quit! Oh! If you see "Rufus", tell him Sue still thinks he's an ass!
Friendly dancers, great food- the cook was good for a joke or two, and really went out of his way to spruce up the bar food. Very low key, blue collar place. Check it out, and tip the dancers, and your server.
A little on the dark side and allows smoking. Smoke levels were tolerable. The bar was roomy and seemed to be supplying a fair number of takeout orders. I did not see the menu. The bartender was friendly and working her tail off. Strippers were doing the three song BS. Overall, worth another look.
At night, this area is very deserted. club circut strippers change shifts at 10. Good place to catch up on sportscenter and have some poon give you the old "touch your toes" bit. Other than that, very low key. Proabably better right after work if you are in the area. It's got some regulars and a kitchen. When you are in lonely town, go lonely. Hell, I may go there now.
Great little cozy bar. Cold pabst, friendly bartenders and dancers. Dancers so friendly that I ended up marrying one of them. Good times with friends. Great beer swank decor. Lots of late nights boozed up playing pool.
I like Nicolai. It's in the industrial district and is a blue collar bar I thought. There is no pole, it's a small stage with a counter and the dancers have always been really good every time I've been there.
