BarFly's Review of Muu-Muu's
Whither Muu-Muu's? In the very heart of the NW 23rd beast, they managed to avoid yuppie preciousness and bachelorette party squealing for oh so long. Servers far from servile, design elements subtly incorporating a Tiki element within dark wood bar and booths, tasteful indie soundtracks, an enlightened wine list and lightly-tweaked comfort cuisine (ground beef AND fries are shoved into baguettes for the house burger).
The whole enterprise seemed an evolutionary step forward - like 22nd century Northwest or San Francisco. And expect stroller parking any day now.

Add your own review or commentSat at the bar, didnt get service. Went to the bathroom and came back then bartender returned five minutes later after being subjected to what seemed to be an angry blonde lesbian "friend of family" who might possibly have been male? or an employee? anyways, food had lots of potential. Drink prices are very NW and unrealistic. But if your loaded in NW on a weekday and have no other food options late night its tolerable for the patient customer. Stay away on the weekends unless your name is Chad/Todd and you deal drugs and talk loudly about it. Enjoy
My psychotic date paid the tab before left me there after a verbal lashing, he left a bad tip. Baffled, I was texting my little brother to come get me, the waitress comes up and tells me about said tip.
I apologized and agreed with her that he was clearly a d bag, I offered her any cash that I had and she refused, I even offered her his number if she wanted to direct her anger at the person who causes it. As i'm leaving she yells "why don't you just leave!"....which was what I was already doing....
So i'm outside on the phone with my brother and she comes out to continue her rant. I again apologize but I reminded her that I was outside, leaving her the alone, and that it wasn't my tab to pay or leave a tip. She comes back outside with a camera and gets up in my face with it saying i'm 86'ed. I'm even more confused at this point.
Dear awful waitress at Muu Muu's: Maybe he gave you an awful tip because you're an awful waitress with an attitude and face to match.
I will never ever ever be going back to Muu Muu's and i'm telling as many people about this as possible because this was totally ridiculous. I am also contacting the owner because that waitress is going to drive away business with her attitude and behavior.
I don't know what it is about MM's, but something about the atmosphere + food + drinks + local portland type crowd makes it a place that I go to quite a bit. On the down side, it is a little loud and hard to hold a conversation when its crowded, but a great place to grab some food and cocktails before heading on to wilder places.
This place was recommended to me by my friends and I'm glad I mad it. Great happy hour. Nice place, but still casual.
I love the indie soundtrack, I don't dig the smoke (after 10) but the bartender was great when I was there. Quick fair drinks at a fair price, the fries are to die for. In fact that is why I was there, someone told me they have the best fries in NW. Its true. Also there were a lot of attractive young rocker chics there....go figure. I'll be back.
muu muu's rules. the food is amazingly good. and most of the servers/bartenders kick ass. brunch on the weekend is the best ever. there is a high douche bag/frat dude contingent (see all the other comments referencing "hot girls") so it's kinda a meat market. but if you are a regular & you tip well the staff will blow right past these people to get to you. despite the frat dudes, it still rules.
I live in North Portland. I don't get over to the NW side of town enough. I love this bar. They consistantly have a fantastic selection of beers on tap and some damn good food. I want a place like this in my neighborhood.
Wow, this place is one of the best in Portland...a little smoky (like most spots in P-town), but great service, drinks and AWESOME food...seriously, the food is crazy good! I have never been let down by Muu Muu's...lots of cute people, both customers and staff :)
I've been enjoying Muu Muu's on a much more regular basis the last few months. Whenever I find myself over in NW it is always a stop. The bartenders know how to make a drink, and the drinks are stiff enough to make you notice! They also have great food. It can get fairly crowded on the weekends, but most of the crowd is not the loud cell-phone talking variety. It's more of a locals type crowd during the week.
OK so I shouldn't let this out but if you want a really relaxed, tasty breakfast experience try MuuMuu's. True, on a busy night you can hardly hear the person next to you it's so loud and packed but in the morning there are very few people there. Nice to read your paper, drink coffee and relax. No standing in lines to be seated like all the other breakfast spots in NW. (Now everyone will show up and ruin it for me). Their eggs benedict is fab and love their vinegrette. French toast to die for. Their pepper bacon is just right. Service is so nice and the music mix is just screwed up enough to keep you guessing. The Brutus salad is so filled with garlic it will make you cry but oh so good. I love MuuMuu's but wish their art changed more often. Those same framed photos have got to go. Still a fan though.
judging by these comments, you can tell what kind of bar muu muu's can be. keep your pants zipped for christ sakes. the the cocktail servers can be friendly, i wouldn't sit at the bar unless you look like you own a condo. the bar tenders don't usually won't ask the scruffy twentysomethings, 'do you want another pabst?' seriously...
oh man, orgasmic food, and super nice servers i wish i wasnt so broke or i'd give them bigger tips
I am huge fan of Muu Muu's. NOt only do I get a damn good drink every time I frequent this place, BUT, there are friendly wait staff and enjoyable items on the food menu. For example, the thai soup is amazing after a few driks. happ hour isn't so bad either!
Here's a tip for parking/partying/drinking/getting laid in N.W. Concerning parking: find any Legacy parking lot-they can be found on 20th and Lovejoy or 20th and Marshall(perhpas even more). You will not get toed if you leave your car there overnight on the weekends. I promise. It is just a short juant to Muu-Muu's, and along the way, you can stop in and drink at other bars that offer alcohol and perhaps some cute ladies, as N.W. offers both of these.
This is by far the best bar ive been to in Portland. there are ALWAYS hot girls. Drinks are strong and low priced. Parking blows but your going there to drink and hopefully not to drive home. If you have any conversation skills this is THE place to find girls.. this place makes it sooooo easy.
