BarFly's Review of Mother's Velvet Lounge
Boudoir-like, distinctly feminine decor invites romance, but bring your own date, as this is no pick-up joint. Addictive house cocktails are progressive twists on classic favorites, and creatively infused vodka and other spirits are regularly featured.
Quick-witted, knowledgeable staff. Weekend brunch is among the best in town, thanks in no small part to the killer Marys on the menu. Smoking in bar, only. Open till at least midnight during the week and until 1am or later weekends.

Stopped there the other night for a little re-introduction to the place. It used to be a neat little bar off to the side of the main restaurant. Now it is almost a part of the restaurant, it has lost it's charm. Not a boozer's place to go unless you are waiting for the food in the main dining room. The bartender also was OK, but they were in a hurry so they could close down at 10:00!
Heard through the grapevine this was the place to go for a great Sunday brunch. Good food, and good table service once we got seated. But tables are way too close together to get any privacy, and I thought at any moment I was gonna knock elbows with the stranger next to me. The shoulder-lengthed brunette hostess did not impress. She cut a guest off in mid-sentence while he was trying to tell her she was helping a couple who cut in line. Perhaps the waitstaff should train the host staff on basic manners. Not worth the hour-long wait. Won't be coming back anytime soon.
Mother's is THE BEST breakfast place in town! If you get the chance to go there, try the CRUNCHY FRENCH TOAST--it is superb!!!! (I haven't tried anything from their lunch/dinner menu yet, but I'm sure it's equally as good).. On weekends there is always a wait, so be prepared. But, it is definately worth the wait...
