BarFly's Review of Mint
Mint's emphasis is on Latin-influenced food and stellar cocktails. The ambiance is very chic with dim lighting, cushy booths, and a small, intimate bar. If you're down to eat, come here, if you just want the incredible cocktails, head next-door to Mint's sister bar, the 820 Lounge.

Add your own review or commentWe warned. If you are going to Mint to celebrate a Birthday or a just want to have drinks with some friends and or sitting in a group of 6 or more, the waiters at Mint add a 20% gratuity on to your total bill. Our waiter Lucas told us that this standard practice for all groups sitting (maybe not standing or kneeling or laying down or maybe standing but leaning against something but a table) in a group of 6 or more regardless of you are eating 1 appetizer or none, they need to add 20%. Wow. It would have been o.k. if Lucas(the waiter) had given us any service and had not stereotyped us as a group housewifes who will camp at his table all night and drink water. There was 7 of us, each woman had between 3 and 4 drinks @ $9.00 a drink, 2 appetizers and we had to wait about 20 - 25 minutes in between each drink and the last 30 minutes we were there, he never returned for a drink forcing the group to leave to go somewhere we could get served. Lucas spoiled the evening for all of us and profited off the group having to take the "high ground" on his undeserved gratuity. Suck experience. Over priced drinks. Bad bad bad service. Mediocre food. Word of mouth, priceless.
Clean. Respectable. Great bartender! Wow. She was good. Bottom line, though: foofy drinks and eats for foofy people. Not a place you'd wanna take a date unless you don't mind talking privately over the stranger sitting directly next to you. It's a place you would go to once in awhile if you are in a specific mood for that chic feel, or regularly if you have a group you go with and money enough not to care about portions size or price of a beer/cocktail. Look deeper; there are better options in PDX for this vibe.
Mint is a wonderful place to go if you don't care about the rotten service. The last time I was there (Sept), the server was so rude it was almost funny because it was straight out of a movie. None-the-less, it's a nice place if the owner's would pay attention to these reviews. I mentioned the bad service while I was there, but no one cared. Huh. So I'm writing this for interested Mint-goers. It really is a lovely place but the "tude" has to go.
Visited 820 weekend before last. As usual, we had a very rude and bitter wait person. I'm not sure why she has to be so rude. We always seem to get her, and frankly I am fed up with her shitty attitude. If it wasn't for the chilled out music, nice atmosphere & great cocktails, we wouldn't have given this place another chance. Maybe she'd be happier if there weren't so many customers? With her attitude that is bound to happen soon!
Great scene, staff with an attitude, and awesome drinks. Beautiful interior and setting, and the avocado daiquiri is better than it sounds. Smooth as silk and super tasty. But the staff could be a little more attentive...
