BarFly's Review of Lola's Room
Intimate space on the second floor of the Crystal Ballroom hosts weekly dance gigs, plus local and touring live acts a little too small for the Ballroom. Cool hippie-deco spherical lamps cast a flattering glow. Seating limited to only a few wooden booths and a smattering of tables. Bouncy, 'sprung' dancefloor, å la its big sister, upstairs.
Sundays: "The Pearly Gates" LGBTQ dance night with rotating guest deejays (9pm, $5; starting 9/8/13).
Fridays: '80s Video Dance Attack w/VJ Kittyrox (10pm, $3).

Add your own review or commentI love love love their 90s Night! It is only on a few Saturdays each month... but it is rad... and fun.
I read the review's for Lola's Room 80's Night and was convinced it would be a total drag, but my girl friend forced me there for my bachelorette party last month. I had an absolute blast. The crowd ranged from trendy 20 somethings to couples in the 40's. The music was awesome and the spring loaded floor is a hoot. Don't believe all the negative reviews, and pay the $5 cover once just to see if its for you. I can't wait to go back with my husband!
Hi. Mink Staccato here. (Miss Kittyrox's partner in crime on Thursday and Fridays...)
Just thought I'd drop a quick line to say that we are non-smoking on Fridays now. So if that's good for you, that's good. And if that's not good, um... sorry about that.
Also, we're averaging about 450 people a week (and upwards of 600 on the busy weeks), so get there early for the good booths.
We heart Portland in a bad way, baby. You all rock. Thanks.

A great place to get down, if you can breathe. Maybe its because I'm a little taller then most, but by 12:00 the place was filled with so much cigarette smoke I could barely breathe (literally). The decor is really chill and comfortable and the crowd is a great mix of hip, trendy, alternative, and just cool people (with a few trashy, scuzzy people thrown in). Expect the dance floor to be covered in spilled drinks and broken glass due to the sometimes fun sometimes sickening bouncy floor. The music played on 80's night was great. the perfect mix of pop and indie stuff. I dug the video screen, and the overhead lights, and the bar staff was quick, friendly, and mostly unnoticed (which I think is a good thing). If you've been to 80's night at John Henry's in Eugene you'll be disappointed here, but its still a fun night out.
dude, don't bring flasks into my club, it's dangerous for you, the bartenders and the people around you. do I go into YOUR work and take a big dump on the floor?
This is the best dance club west of the Mississippi. Complete with bouncy floors to keep us rhythm less white guys in check with the beat. Down side is it takes to long to get a drink, so bring your flask… and your members only jacket, and expect to spill at least one drink while your bouncing around on the floor. O, and check out the madonna chick... Shes always there.
If you like dancing to 80's, this is the place to be. The first time I went there, about 3 months ago, it was really dead...and I absolutely could not believe it! The music was awesome, the large video screen was fun, and the atmosphere was great. I found it hard to believe that there was not a great following for this place. But now, it is more crowded and almost everyone is dancing by 12 or 12:30. If you are familiar with some of the clubs around Portland here is a pretty good assessment of what the music is like- its less "Old-School-Modern-Rock" than The Fez, but more so than The Greek Cuisina 80's room, which tends to lean on the 80's pop side; in other words, you'll be dancing to 80's pop to the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna but you'll also get some modern rock like Depeche Mode, The Cure, and The Clash. It will not be an uncommon sight to see many sweaty bodies from dancing all night long. One thing about the DJ - she's awesome!! The music is mixed well, but more importantly, she plays almost all of the requests! If you're into crowd, then there's a little something for everyone- you'll find the small groups of girls who reject any all all guys who try to dance with them, a small contingent of gays and lesbians, another contingent of "'hootchies'and the guys that love them", as well as an assortment of pretty cool and mellow people. This is one of the few places where the majority of the people are there to have fun and not just trying to be cool or get laid (oh...there's a very small contingent of that too). By the way, I'm not the owner or one of the bartenders--- just a big and increasingly loyal fan of the friday nite 80's at Lola's.
