BarFly's Review of Hung Far LowMoved recently from historic Old Town Portland to trashy 82nd Ave. A bizarre choice. Mediocre Chinese food meets strong drinks meets that preprogrammed radio music that was in during the late 90s. What's that called again?
Getting to Hung Far Low

Only one waitress, who asked for payment before food was even delivered, some folks waited over an hour for their food
I used to like what was on 82nd before it became Hung Far Low. It was cheap and so on, but always a pleasant experience. In our family in the late '30s and early '40s, our idea of going out to dinner was like that of the Honeymooners: We'd go out for Chinese, and that meand upstairs in a roomlike booth at Hung Far Low. Being a kid, I was certainly no gourmet and ate anything I could get my hands on, but those are memories of dining in style upstairs with the family in a real restaurant that I'll never lose. That was Dining Out!
I worked there as a busboy in the early 70's. It was my introduction to Chinese food. Awesome fried shrimp, they had an awesome fried chicken as well. I loved the travel up the stairs. I need to go check out the 82nd location.......after they get it fixed!
If you like awesome chinese food and strong drinks then go here and you will not be disappointed.
Wow - an institution almost 100 years old forced out by gentrification. The Emperor of China eat there somewhere around 1923.
Best Chinese food I've tasted. That not just in Portland, but anywhere. Been eating the food since I can remember and will continue. If I get food from anywhere else, I always say "not as good as Hung Far Low."
Man, I love to feast on Hung Far Low. They have the best food EVER! If you dont think Hung Far Low is delicious. GO HUNG FAR LOW!!!
This place moved from old town/chinatown in downtown Portland to out on 82nd. The reason the owner said they moved was because of their building rent being raised too high - considering the pearl district just up the street had become high income area of town, I guess that not a surprise. Anywho, as a southeastie, I appreciate reputable establishments moving to my neighborhood. They now are on the corner of 82nd and Division. 82nd street is informally becoming the new china town.
I have been eating at Hung Far Low for 27 years. The food has consistantly been great. I moved to Atlanata and as soon as I get off the plan, they are my first stop! The drinks are nice!!!
The drinks are stiff and lovely, the food is great, I can recommend the fried shrimp, the general tsao's chicken, the ginger beef, and the fresh pork fried rice with peas and bean sprouts. I've been going here for 27 years, my dad and grandmother knew the original owners. Everyone there is really nice, too bad the customers aren't as polite as they are.
This bar is bad ass...If you like a up town crowd the get out of China town really. Some friend's and i stumble on this bar when we where on ower way to majic garden's.....I'll tell ya all some thin go to Mary's club then hung far low the Majic garden's...Porland best Rounds you ever have
Who the hell would want to drink diet coke? I've never been to Hung Far Low, but seem to I like it.
Ok, dive does not even begin to describe this place!! I swear they played Z100 all night long and who the hell doesn't serve Diet Coke? The drinks were strong, but the service was so slow it didn't matter...an OK starting place, but I wouldn't get too wasted...those stairs are steep!
