BarFly's Review of Hopworks Urban Brewery
Bedecked with myriad bike frames, a killer warehouse-redoing and good-looking staff, Hopworks quickly raised the average household income level of bargoers on that particular stretch of Powell. Enormous copper bar, two levels of seating and damn good beer make this "Eco-Friendly" organic brewery a good place both for individuals and large groups. Cheap happy hour menu full of good food and homemade potato chips. Impending new location on N Williams.

I waited on baited breath for months for this place to open and it was worth the wait. The first few weeks were a madhouse, but now it's perfect. The beer, food, and staff are all phenomenal...well, the staff who've been there for a while are. The new ones could use some experience. It's only been open for a couple of months and still houses some of my best and blurriest memories.
The beer is phenomenal. I'm a big fan of the Stout. Made with espresso beans, it's a wonderful combination of caffeine and alcohol.
If you're planning on eating here, go for the special "lunch price" pizza slices or happy hour. Otherwise, you're going to pay more than you should for this kind of pub food.
So, your friendly neighborhood dive it ain't, but it's better than a stick in the eye. Ok, the beer is good, actually damn good, and the nachofied fries are also a tiny slice of heaven, the crowds and long table wait, not so good. But, it's a constant catch 22 in life to be angry at a place you want to succeed, and like, to become so popular you can't get in. Of course, did anyone else catch the fact that it actually appeared in this month's Outside magazine?? That couldn't have hurt the crowds. Low down: good beer, good food, long wait, nice staff. It's only been open for a short time, so I would assume the wait and hype will go down over time.
Went there Sunday night, my steak sandwich was freekin great. Better than Bridgeport. They need daily food specials, perhaps prime rib sundays or taco tuesdays? That would be tight.
This place got instantly busy. Its similar to LaurelWood BrewPub in atmosphere and the general people it attracts. I have been there 4 times and 2 times I left because I hate places that are over crowded, and hard to get service. But at least it means they should have no problem staying in business. The beer is great, the food is awesome. Some of the best pizza I have had in Portland. But the prices are a bit over the top. Being all organic, its good for your body, but bad for your wallet. For the more thrifty, who don't like feeling ripped off I suggest going at Happy Hour, or for lunch. They have good deals on lunch 12-3pm- slice of cheese pizza small salad and a soda for $5, make that soda a beer and its $7. And theres a few more items I believe fairly priced. Happy Hour is from 3-6 and 9-11 Sun.-Thurs. and 10-12 Fri. & Sat. Beer is $3.50 instead of $4.25 and they have quite a few food options for a great price. One being a slice of pizza for $1.75, hard to beat that. If you check out their website theres more info and a list of their menu and prices. Being that I live up the rode I will go back for lunch and Happy Hour. I hope they keep those good deals, otherwise I'll just find somewhere else.
