If this is upscale, then fucking shoot me. Yeah, it looks nice, but could I get a bit of service? I sat at the bar for my limit of 15 minutes. The bartender not to be seen, while all the other servers avoided any eye contact. It was happy hour, or maybe not so happy. At the very last moment the bartender came out and took my order perfunctorily. I'm just glad he was getting laid or high or whatever so that I could interrupt him.Food was okay. But never again.
Don't let the name fool you. This isn't a tavern, but an upscale (fairly expensive)restaurant. The service is prompt and friendly and the seared scallops I had were excellent.
The dining area is much bigger than it appears from street level with a front bar/dining area, a huge dining area in the back, and an upstairs.
The atmosphere is cozy with dim lighting and the decor is rather rustic with the original brick walls and timber beams left over from when the building was constructed.
Our dessert was the bread pudding, and I can truthfully say it was the best I have tasted in any restaurant in Portland.
The dining room was about 1/3 full at 8:00 on a Saturday night which seemed a little light, but maybe we just missed the dinner crowd.
I would recommend the Davis Street Tavern if you are looking for a high quality meal and excellent service.
