BarFly's Review of Alberta Street Pub
Note: Under new ownership and undergoing remodel, May 2013. Promises to maintain ASP spirit and add small dedicated music performance space!
Open 3pm-2am every day.
BarFly's last review of Alberta Street Pub is below.
From the mercurial waitstaff and beloved owner to the boozy bohomie and (tragically) banned smoking, Alberta Street's every bit the sloppy, sweaty, traditional Irish public house minus the franchisable trimmings. A devotion to acoustic music of all stripes illustrates the Celtic origins of bluegrass and Old Time, and well-priced libations soften the liveliest jam.

great pub! coincidentally showed on st patrick's day for some drinks. rockin crowd enjoying the timbers and merry fun all around.
had to go back a couple of days later for food and drinks. the bangers are freaking awesome and some tasty nachos as well.
beer selection is tip top and some great whiskey choices. guinness and jameson are always bar standards and it was great to have michael collins and paddy's irish offered and the kilkenny is creamy good beer.
staff was polite and well organized on both times i went.
if this pub was in my neighborhood i'd be there every weekend.
Alberta St, Last Thursday. the 3 of us went to Alberta St Pub, ordered 2 IPAs and a hefeweizen, the bartender, who looked like a drag queen minus the nice makeup, poured a beer - not cloudy like a hefe, threw a lemon in it and served it- one taste confirmed it was NOT what we ordered, So she She the same friggin beer again, like it was going to change the type. We complained again. She held the beer arms length and turned it upside down into the sink and said, "you've only been complaining about this for the last hour! This is WHEAT BEER!" Uh, dunb ass, learn your beers! at this time an Irish gent went behind the bar. Looking like he may be the owner/manager we told him we ordered a hefeweizen, and this isn't it- he said thay they didn't have that. (then why the fuck didn't fugly say that in the first place!?!?! He poured us another IPA, rather nice about things. I may return again, but not when Miss PMS is behind the bar!
This bar just totally kicks ass if you dislike 'mixed crowds' and most of the people who have lived and enjoyed the less homogenous bars in Northeast Portland. Enjoy the Guiness, only 5% alcohol by the way and fills you up after two or three! Oh, and remember- ten percent is a wonderful tip for the bartender, she loves you I'm sure! After all you didn't buy that starter home by squandering on shabby bars like Florida Room or The Nest (minorities drink there- beware!!!).
Smoke-free, nice dim lighting, but not so dark I can't see my food, good music, and a nice little black cat lives there. My kind of place.
the food is amazing, the drinks are strong as fuck, i've always had great service (ok, there was one bad time, but the bar was so packed you could hardly walk through it) and it's haunted. ask a bartender (when its slow) to tell you about the ghost
I think this place has great juju. get here early to get a good seat. the service does kinda suck... one lass in particular has a bad attitude but makes up for it in cocktails. I say get over it-this is Portland. How many places can you go to that serves such good food with Guinness on tap? Do try the Where's the Beef Sandwich and wash it down with a lovely Guinness.
previous complaints are about the hours? Now that's just lame. Everything on Alberta St has weird hours. Blame the neighborhood, not the bar.
My neighbor hood sucks because everything closes so early, and this pub is part of the problem. where am I supposed to go to at night after I get done with work at 11p? Not there, or Ill be hustled out within 15 minutes. Its pretty cool there and i wish it were open late enough so I could crawl home, very drunkenly.
Food is good. Service sucks. Music is often too loud. Should be open earlier for those of us who'd like a pint at lunch. Best damn french fries in town.
